Composite fillings, also known as dental white fillings, are a significant advancement in restorative dentistry, made from a durable, tooth-colored resin meticulously matched to the shade of your existing teeth. At Dentistry on Ellesmere, our skilled dentists use these fillings to repair cavities, chips, and minor fractures with restorations that blend seamlessly with natural tooth structure. Unlike traditional amalgam (silver) fillings, composite fillings bond directly to the tooth enamel and dentin, creating a stronger, more supportive restoration while requiring less removal of healthy tooth structure, making it a more conservative treatment option. Additionally, the biocompatible nature of composite resin ensures it is a safe and well-tolerated material for our Scarborough patients.
A thorough examination, including X-rays if needed, to assess the affected tooth and determine if a composite filling is the best option.
Local anesthetic is administered for comfort, and the dentist removes decay while preserving as much healthy tooth structure as possible.
Tooth-colored resin is applied in thin layers, sculpted for a natural look, and hardened with a curing light.
The filling is shaped, polished, and adjusted for a seamless fit and a comfortable bite.
