In a study that analyzed research on dental caries it was concluded that chewing sugar-free gum helps reduce deterioration of cavities. What was revealed in the review published the Journal of Dental Research was that sugar free gum could not only reduce the advancement of dental caries, but may be used as a preventative strategy. It was further concluded that chewing sugar free gum could be an alternative for strategies such as oral hygiene instruction and supervised teeth brushing programs. In addition to this current study, 12 other studies done over the last 50 years are analyzed.
